DIRECTOR'S
STATEMENT (continued)...
Along the campaign trail, we meet the sometimes hapless, but quietly passionate Gary Nolan, a tavern owner and former regional radio show host. We meet his team, his supporters – and bombastic rivals – all accompanied by conversations with voters across America. It’s a wide cast of colorful characters and scenery: patrons at Nolan’s Tavern on Cleveland’s East side; chats with partying participants at the Boston Cannabis Festival; lively debates in Wisconsin; a shooting match in Dallas...and a shouting match in Atlanta.
Although provided complete access to the candidate, the film is an independent production, and entirely unaffiliated with the Nolan campaign or the Libertarian Party. Neither do I endorse Nolan’s politics.
Stylistically, “Nolan’s Run” takes the viewer on a “you are there” purely verite ride, without talking heads or voice-overs.
Full of candid and entertaining moments, “Nolan’s Run” tells the story of politics off the grid of typical campaign reporting, a place where politicians and voters aren’t just on the left or on the right, a world where the Presidential candidate’s crashpad is the Motel 6, and where breakfast is an Egg McMuffin in one hand and a steering wheel in the other. |
